A UNIQUE METHOD

UNCERTAINTY HAS BECOME THE NEW CERTAINTY

From the impacts of Covid-19 to climate change: Uncertainty has become our new certainty. Thinking like an artist can leverage the way organizations deal with this uncertainty. How? By using the artist’s mindset to create new strategies, managerial solutions, business models, or communication tools, that appear upfront to be improbable.

To open this potential, we formalized Art Thinking: An agile method to create the improbable with certainty. Art Thinking stops you from optimizing the past. It stops you from listening to your current clients. It allows you to pause and challenge your certainties. It enables alternative perspectives to build sustainable solutions.

No need to be creative: Follow the Art Thinking method and you will create, with certainty, out-of-the-box thinking. Using an evidence-based approach (i.e. developing research projects and analyzing hundreds of artistic and entrepreneurial cases), we defined a process with three steps and six practices.

OUR HISTORY

Sylvain Bureau, a professor in entrepreneurship, and Pierre Tectin, an artist, met at a wedding in 2008. It was in France, and it was one of those very long French weddings.

After the “dance of the brioche”, drinking Champaign, they got talking about art, creation, politics and much more.

Since that day, they have been working together in many ways to mingle art and entrepreneurial practices. They launched the first Art Thinking workshop in 2011: Improbable.

Building on this first success, Sylvain developed the Art Thinking method, which draws from observing similar patterns in all types of creative activities, whether in art, science or entrepreneurship.

Year after year, Pierre and Sylvain saw the network grow around this learning journey. Thanks to their many encounters, they had the opportunity to create joint projects with artistic institutions like Centre Pompidou and Le Louvre in Paris, as well as academic institutions like Stanford University in the USA or Musashino Art University in Japan.

The coining of the term Art Thinking pre-existed Sylvain and Pierre’s approach. What they did was develop a systematic method to create the improbable with certainty. We will let you discover what it means – and how it feels.

Enjoy!
